Today we learned the phrase "Na'eem Me'od" (which is used for 'nice to meet you'). We played a group Na'eem Me'od game and transformed our dramatic play area into a business center. On interviews, or in business meetings, you must introduce yourself and politely say "Na'eem Me'od" when meeting someone new.

Hebrew reading in Kindergarten is getting really exciting! We are now able to read real words, not just sounds. Try to find a few minutes each day to practice some of the words you see on the list below.

Dear Parents,

Today we learned how to use our classroom computer. We have some Hebrew reading games and an Alef-Bet matching game. We have a rotation and each child knows when it is their turn to use the computer for 10-15 minutes. We might only get a chance to use the computer once a week, so we are learning an important lesson in patience and delayed gratification. 

 We are adding to our original Hebrew sentence "Shalom Ani" (Hello, I am) and adding to it "Ani Lo" (I am not). For example: Shalom Ani Morah Shaina, Ani Lo Morah Eileen. Each child created the sentence and added their name, and a friends name, appropriately.

Dear Parents,

Today we introduced the patach vowel. We took a turn reading by catching the Alef Bet ball. When we were done, we threw the ball to the next friend in line. Throughout the morning I heard the children reading to themselves while taking part in the various Hebrew workstations in the classroom. I am so proud of our class!

 Dear Parents,

We are working on following simple directions and being first-time listeners in Kindergarten. This will help our Kochavim accomplish more throughout the day. At home you can reinforce this by giving 2 and 3 step directions...make it a game! "Can you touch your nose and then do five jumping jacks?" or "walk to the kitchen, turn around, and sit at the table".

Dear Parents,

As the students develop their reading skills in the classroom, they enjoy the library center more and more. One of the additions in our library is the use of phonics phones. The phone helps the student "hear" their own voice. The intentional focus on hearing sounds helps the students acquire phonemic awareness, a critical element to develop proficient reading. These are easy to make at home, and very affordable! You can find the directions here.
